Spring Training 2008 Day 1

For the third year in a row, Jack and I headed to Spring Training in Arizona. Previously, we have done it as a three day, two night sprint: flying in early in the morning; watching a game later in the day; watching a second game on day two; watching a third game on day three; and, then flying home after the third game. I decided this year to make it a more relaxed trip. We are still going to see three games, but we are going to spent five days and four nights.

Jack and I caught a mid day flight from Sacramento to Phoenix. Although a little late taking off, it was an uneventful trip. We met Wallen at the rental car terminal, picked up the rental car and headed to the hotel. The entertainment for the afternoon was Wallen getting mad at me for following the GPS to the hotel, rather than listening to his directions. The GPS dropped us right into rush hour traffic.

After checking into the hotel, the group gathered in one of the rooms to watch the NCAA tournament. This year's group includes Wallen, his brother Bob, his brother Bill, his niece Jenny, Dennis, Palmer, Ward, Jack and I. Doug, a friend of Wallen's and mine from college who lives in Phoenix, and his friend Bob have also become a regular part of the group over the last couple of years. They typically join us for a couple of evenings and at least one of the games.

We finished up the night walking to the Four Peaks Brewery for dinner.
