After getting to bed after midnight, I dragged myself out of bed at 5:00 a.m., loaded the car and headed back to Sacramento. I made a quick stop at the house and was in the office about 9:00 a.m.
I spend seven hours in meetings. By the end of the day, I was bone tired. With Sharon traveling the next few days and Jack trying out for football, I doubt that I am going to make it back to the lake again this week.
This is the first year since 2004 that I have tried to do parts of the yearly trip to the lake. Given the move to the new house, Jack's confirmation, Jack's graduation, the Disneyland graduation trip, the baseball trip to Omaha, the long Italian vacation and the unscheduled trip to see Drew on the Letterman show, I have overextended myself personally and professionally.
Hopefully, the lake trip will continue; it had a few bumps this year. After 25 years, it is an important touchstone in my life for maintaining some relationships that are very important to me. I will be committed to the trip next year...
