Half Moon Bay Day 3 plus 2005 Kings Ticket Draw

After having breakfast in the room and packing up, Sharon and I headed to Half Moon Bay State Park. We hiked a couple of miles south down the beach from the Venice Beach entrance and back. Although some of the vegetation on the sand dunes was interesting, this was not a particularly scenic hike. Unlike Monday when the weather was spectacular, Tuesday was overcast.

We stopped at one of the big pumpkin patches on Highway 92 so Sharon could shop for Halloween decorations, did a conference call from the car to pick our Kings tickets for this season, and then stopped in downtown San Mateo for lunch at a Mexican/Salvadoran Restaurant called La Michoacana. We wandered across the valley and got back to Elk Grove in the early afternoon.

Half Moon Bay Day 2

After breakfast in the hotel, Sharon and I played a round of golf on the Old Course at Half Moon Bay Golf Links. I started horribly; I could not get going. Sharon got a par on the 6th hole. I shot a 57 on the front nine, while Sharon carded a 55.

About the seventh hole, I started to hit the ball. I ended up getting a par on the 18th hole. I hit a driver down the middle about 230 yards and then hit a 5 wood 190 yards over the creek to the front of the green within about 12 feet of the pin. I two putted for a par. It was probably the best two golf shots I have ever hit. I shot 51 on the back nine and finished with a 108.

After golf, we had a bit to eat in the lobby of the hotel, hiked a couple of miles along the Ocean Course south of the hotel, went to the roman mineral bath and then the steam room, and watched the sunset from the hotel.

After the sun went down, we drove into Half Moon Bay and had dinner at Cetrella. Sharon had the guinea hen, while I had lamb shank. Over the appetizer last night and the salad and desert tonight, Sharon got some great ideas for the possibility of an Iron Chief special ingredient approach to a dinner party that we are having later this month.

Half Moon Bay Day 1

Sharon and I dropped Jack at her brother's and took off for Half Moon Bay. Over the last five years, we have made an effort to get away by ourselves for a couple of days to celebrate our anniversary: 2000 to Napa; 2001 to Mammoth; 2002 to Cambria (Hearst Castle); 2003 to Las Vegas; and, 2004 to San Francisco.

After getting hung up in traffic on highway 92 between 280 and 1, we finally got to the hotel about 2:30 p.m. After a late lunch in the hotel, we checked into the room. Sharon had made spa appointments for a pumpkin wash(?!?) and a massage. While she went to the spa, I went for a long run on the trails on the bluffs overlooking the ocean.

We ended up having a late dinner at the Navio. Sharon had duck, while I had short ribs combined with an interesting Craggy Range Pinot Noir from New Zealand that the Wine Steward recommended.
