Boy Scout Troop 59 Weekly Meeting (#3)

Jack went to the weekly meeting of Boy Scout Troop 59. I am still working to try and get him engaged in Boy Scouts. With tournament baseball, flag football and school all starting up over the next three weeks, this may be a struggle.

The scouts worked on getting ready for the upcoming overnight camping trip at Silver Creek. Tim worked with the group finalizing the menu and the shopping lists, while Jack helped organize and check the gear the boys will be using.

Boy Scout Troop 59 Weekly Meeting (#2)

Jack went to the weekly meeting of Boy Scout Troop 59. With all of the other things that we have had going on over the last couple months, I have been struggling to get Jack engaged and moving forward with Boy Scouts.

Whenever there are five Wednesdays in a month, the fifth one is a fun day. This week every scout was to bring a Frisbee. Jack spent most of the meeting playing disc golf in Elk Grove Park.

Boy Scout Troop 59 Weekly Meeting (#1)

When his grandmother died in late March, Jack missed the formal bridging event from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. With school, track and two different baseball teams over the last couple of months, I have not gotten him to a Boy Scout troop meeting.

I took him to the weekly meeting of Boy Scout Troop 59 for the first time on Wednesday night. We visited this Troop last November and went tubing with them in January. Tim and Cody from his Cub Scout den joined this Troop. Although he was less than thrilled about being there as we were waiting for the meeting to start, Jack was very upbeat and enthused when we left. Although it is going to be difficult, I am going to try and get him to a few of the weekly meetings over the next two months.

Tubing with the Boys Scouts

In March, Jack will be making the jump from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. One of the last things that he needed to do to complete his Arrow of Light [the highest rank in Cub Scouting] is attend one Boy Scout outdoor activity.

Jack, Tim, Chad, Cody and Johnny went tubing with Troop 59 to Tubes-R-Us at Cisco Grove. The boys had a great time. The place has a moving sidewalk to carry people and their tubes up the hill. Towards the end of the session, they started going down the hill as group all tied together.

Visit to Troop 59

One of the Cub Scout Arrow of Light requirements is to visit at least one Boy Scout troop meeting with your Webelos den. Jack, Timmy and Cody went to visit Boy Scout Troop 59 tonight.

After attending the beginning of the pack meeting, we spent about 40 minutes with the troop's program chair. He walked through the troop's philosophy and their plans for the next year. This is a very active troop with a large number of outings. The troop includes about 90 boys and has been in existence for more than 80 years.
