NBA Power Rankings 2010-2011 Week 8 (30th)

The Sacramento Kings are 30th and last in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the thirty NBA teams.

Having seen the Kings play in person several times in the last couple of weeks, I can attest to the fact that they are an astonishingly bad team.

The Kings always will be relevant to the committee (of one) as long as they employ that Casspi kid. But it's got to be torture for the Maloofs for their team, given its early 2000s glory, to matter so little in the grand scheme.

NBA Power Rankings 2010-2011 Week 7 (28th)

The Sacramento Kings crawled to 28th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of NBA teams, up from 30th last week and ahead of the Cavs and the Wizards.

The Kings' pain is bound to continue with Tuesday's visit to Houston, where they'll find Kev Martin fresh off his first 40-point game as a Rocket and scoring with All-Star-ish efficiency ... while Landry sits on the trade block.

NBA Power Rankings 2010-2011 Week 6 (30th)

With an eight game losing streak, the Sacramento Kings are ranked 30th out of 30 teams in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of NBA teams. Larkin and I are going to the game on Wednesday against the Wizards.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings - National Basketball Association - ESPN
Remember how fun and scrappy they were with last season's 13-14 start? Now chew on this: The Kings are 15-55 since Geoff Petrie's contract extension was announced in December 2009 when they were at 14-16.
Last December, I commented how much I enjoyed watching the young Kings. I don't know what happened to the team that started last season so well...

NBA Power Rankings 2010-2011 Week 5 (30th)

The Sacramento Kings have fallen to 30th out of 30 teams in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of NBA teams. I have watched parts of several Kings games over the last week; as Bill Walton would say, they look horrible.

Cousins, like the Knicks' Fields, is also on the four-man short list of rookies scoring in double figures along with Griffin and Wall. The defenseless Kings, though, can't enjoy it amid all the losing and Tyreke's soph slump.

NBA Power Rankings 2010-2011 Week 3 (29th)

After three weeks, the Sacramento Kings have fallen to 29th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of NBA teams, ahead of only the Wizards. I have watched the Kings play the last couple games in person and on television; they look very bad...

NBA Basketball Power Rankings - National Basketball Association - ESPN
Tension/frustration has mounted so quickly in the wake of that 3-1 start -- with the help of a hugely favorable schedule, it must be said -- that Tyreke's bid for another 20/5/5 season has barely been mentioned lately.

NBA Power Rankings 2010-2011 Week 1 (20th)

After the first week of the season, the Sacramento Kings jumped from 28th to 20th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of NBA teams, ahead of the Nets, Cavs, Knicks, Wizards, T-Wolves, Raptors, Bobcats, 76ers, Pistons and Clippers.

The Kings overturned a 16-point deficit Saturday night in Cleveland to move to 2-1. Casspi scored 20 and drained six triples in the win, four in the second half. Surely you weren't expecting an Omri-free comment.

NBA Power Rankings 2010-2011 Preseason

The Sacramento Kings open training camp ranked as the third worst team in the league in Marc Stein's power rankings of NBA teams, ahead of only the Raptors and Pistons.

My new non-Casspi-related obsession: If Cousins' big preseason launches him to the ROY trophy, this'll be the first team to field back-to-back ROYs since my Buffalo Braves did it in 1973 (Bob McAdoo) and 1974 (Ernie D).

NBA Power Rankings 2010-2011 Training Camp

The Sacramento Kings open training camp ranked as the second worst team in the league in Marc Stein's power rankings of NBA teams, ahead of only the Timberwolves. Last season, the Kings were ranked as the worst team in Stein's preseason power rankings.

These very young Kings will definitely be bigger with Cousins and Dalembert, but don't bank on anything more than marginally better yet. Tyreke and Cousins, as a franchise duo, have some questions to answer.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 21

After suffering a concussion, chipped tooth and gum laceration in the overtime loss to Milwaukee, Tyreke Evans will miss at least three games. He is not expected back until Friday in Boston at the earliest. With 11 games to go in the season, Evans is averaging 20.3 points, 5.6 assists and 5.2 rebounds.

The Kings dropped from 22th to 24th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams, ahead of the Pistons, Warriors, 76ers, Wizards, Timberwolves and the Nets.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
Even if you think he's already done enough to clinch the ROY trophy you're obviously hoping Evans is back soon to finish his rookie season strong. Casspi can't make the Kings watchable on his own ... except maybe for us.

20-5-5 plus Rookie of the Year plus NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 20

With only 15 games left in the Kings season, I am convinced that the team has set its sights on two goals.

First, they want Tyreke Evans to finish the season averaging at least 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. As of today, Evans is averaging 20.3 points, 5.6 assists and 5.1 rebounds per game. A week ago, Evans was averaging less than 5.0 rebounds per game. In the last three games, he has gotten 10, 10 and 9 rebounds to pull his average over 5. I don't think that this is a coincidence!

Second, The Kings want Evans to be Rookie of the Year. As a result, I expect the Kings to be less focused on winning games as they are on making sure that Evans is showcased and that he piles up statistics!

The Kings climbed from 24th to 22th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams, ahead of the Pistons, Clippers, Warriors, Wizards, 76ers, Pacers, Timberwolves and the Nets.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
Tyreke is still averaging 20, 5 and 5, something only Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan and LeBron James did as rooks. Which is why Tyreke is still the ROY favorite ahead of his fast-charging Golden State neighbor.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 19

The Kings climbed from 26th to 24th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams, ahead of the Pistons, Pacers, Warriors, Knicks, Timberwolves and the Nets.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
Our beloved Casspi was back in Dallas on Friday night for the last time as a rookie, while the committee [of one] was on a plane bound for Dorkapalooza. Which is the only bad thing we can say about the weekend.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 18

The Kings climbed from 28th to 26th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams, ahead of the Warriors, Knicks, Timberwolves and the Nets.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
We certainly didn't expect Westphal's Kings to need this long to reach 20 wins after a 13-14 start ... but we can also still remember plenty of folks back in October who thought this team's ceiling was less than 20 wins.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 17

With only 26 games left in the season (15 home and 11 away), it is going to be interesting to see if Westphal can shape the group into something resembling a consistent and competitive team.

The Kings dropped from 24th to 28th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams, ahead of only the Timberwolves and the Nets.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
The immediate impact of the Carl Landry trade? Sacramento just shook up the Sixth Man Award race by dealing for Landry to anchor its frontcourt, eliminating Jamal Crawford's foremost threat in the sixth-man race.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 15

The Kings have 1 wins and 12 losses since Kevin Martin returned to the line-up in January.

The Kings dropped from 26th to 28th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams, ahead of only the Warriors and the Nets.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
Everyone loves the Kings' draft, but GM Geoff Petrie's best move might have been securing his contract extension when he did. The Kings had just beaten Denver at home to improve to 14-16. They're 2-18 since.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 14

The Kings climbed 27th to 26th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams. Their record in January was 2 wins and 13 losses.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
The way things have unraveled -- 3-16 since a 13-14 start -- it looks like it'll be a l-o-n-g string for the Kings to play out after the highlight of the season: Tyreke and our man Casspi teaming up in the Rookie Game.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 13

The Kings have 1 win and 11 losses in January.

The Kings dropped from 24th to 27th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams. It is hard to believe that they were ranked as high as 15th just four weeks ago.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
The 13-14 start was hard to fathom, but the subsequent 2-14 nosedive is almost as hard to process. And don't even get me started on what the losing and struggles to reintegrate Kevin Martin have done to our beloved Casspi.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 12

The Kings have 1 win and 7 losses in January. Looking at the schedule for the rest of the month, I am not optimistic that they will reach my prediction of 4 wins and 11 losses.

The Kings dropped from 20th to 24th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
Remember when we said Kevin Martin would be back soon to make things really interesting for the early pace setters in the Cinderella Rankings? Perhaps we should have gone with the word complicated.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 11

After going 8 and 5 in November and 6 and 9 in December, the Kings have 1 win and 4 losses in January. With Orlando coming into town on Tuesday and then the Kings going on a six game Eastern road trip, it could be a very difficult month. I predicted that they will be lucky to go 4 and 11.

The Kings dropped from 19th to 20th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
Should probably focus on the recent five-game skid as opposed to Casspi's run of four straight 20-point games. Or we could just tell you Kevin Martin should be back soon to make the Kings really interesting.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 10

Given that 8 of the next 13 games are on the road, including a four day stretch where they play at Atlanta, Orlando and Miami, I think that the Kings will be lucky to have 4 wins and 11 losses in January 2010...

The Kings dropped from 15th to 19th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams.

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
You can dwell on how poorly they handled the final play when Kobe wound up with the most wide-open buzzer 3 he'll ever get. Or you can focus on how the Kings, without Tyreke, beat Denver and lost to L.A. by a point.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 9

The Kings climbed from 17th to 15th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of the 30 NBA teams!

NBA Basketball Power Rankings
Way too soon to think about trading Kevin Martin. Not until the Kings get a longer look at how he plays next to Tyreke ... and not after Ls in OT to the Cavs and Lakers that cried out for an experienced scorer in crunch time.
