Super Bowl LVIII Prop Bets

At this point, I have made a couple of small prop bets on Sunday's Super Bowl. They include:
  • Patrick Mahomes - Total Passing Yard under 262.5 -115
  • Brock Purdy - Total Carries over 3.5 +100
As I said four years ago, Mahomes scares the crap out of me. He is a witch whose superpower is avoiding sacks and extending plays.

Even though the 49ers are currently favored by 1.5 points, roughly 77% of the "experts" are favoring the Chiefs. It appears that as much as 80% of the money bet on the spread is on the Chiefs.

I am rooting for the 49ers, but probably not betting on them...

Super Bowl LV Prop Bets

With no dog in the fight, I made a couple of small prop bets on Sunday's Super Bowl. I have been trying to find a long shot defensive bet to place, but can't find anything interesting on the betting site that I use.

As I said last year, Mahomes scares the crap out of me, but I think that it is going to be a close game.

My bets for this year's Super Bowl currently include:
  • Super Bowl LV MVP Winner - Patrick Mahomes -115
  • To Score A Td At Anytime - Leonard Fournette +105
  • Travis Kelce Total Receptions over 7.5 -170
  • Tb Buccaneers Defense Total Qb Sacks O 1 1/2 -190

Rod's NFL Survivor Pool

I was one of three players to successfully navigate Rod's NFL survivor pool. You have to pick a winning team straight up each week, but can only use a team once during the season. I got very lucky several weeks, including weeks 5, 7 and 8.

2018-2019 Sacramento Kings Over/Under Wins

In his annual NBA Over/Under podcast in October, Bill Simmons, Ryen Russell and Joe House all loved the over for the Kings. I ended up making a small bet on the under before the season started. It was not because I don't like the Kings team. It is just that the Western Conference is loaded this year. The Lakers, Clippers, Rockets, Jazz, Nuggets and Trailblazers all have two major stars. I just didn't believe that they could compete this season on the same level with these teams. Obviously, I didn't expect the injuries to Fox and Bagley...

2018 Dallas Cowboy Over/Under Season Win Total

In seven of his last nine games, dating back to last season, Prescott has not thrown for 200 yards and he has not thrown a touchdown pass in six of his last nine games.
For more than 10 years, I have listened to Bill Simmons and Cousin Sal talk about sports betting on their podcasts. There were a couple of times that I was interested in making a bet just for fun. These opportunities were mostly season long bets rather than individual games.

After listening to their over/under podcast for the 2018/19 NFL season, I finally took the plunge and opened an account with an online sports book. In a series of podcasts over the last couple of seasons, Simmons has been really negative about the Dallas Cowboys and their head coach Jason Garret (first coach fired?).

I made a bet on the under for Cowboys season wins. It will be fun to follow this over the course of the season and poke at Rod Renteria online and at the annual fall dinner party!

Tiger Woods

After the boys finished playing baseball on Sunday in Omaha, Rod and I were sitting with a group watching the U.S. Open. He and I got into a debate about Tiger Woods. I bet him that Tiger would not win another major before Jack and Cooper graduated from Jesuit.

I have played all of the major sports [in some cases very badly] and believe that golf is one of the most physically and mentally unforgiving. Watching Tiger limping noticeably after lying on the ground to hit out of the bunker at the British Open and thinking about the emotional issues in his life [sharing two small children], it is difficult for me to see how he could stay focused enough to win a major.

With Tiger sharing the second round lead of the PGA Championship, I watched him play the first six holes today. He just doesn't seem physically or mentally capable of stringing together four rounds in a major.
