Parties...

Sharon and I spent most of the day going to birthday and graduation parties!

With Jack on his way back from camping, Sharon and I headed to Terri and Steve Funk's house at lunchtime for Lydia's first birthday party. Lydia is Sharon's nephew Kevin's daughter. There was a pretty good size group of people (>25?) spread out in the Funk's back yard.

After a quick stop at home, Sharon and I headed to the Marchant's for Emma's graduation party in the early afternoon. Jack was just leaving this party as we were arriving. After going to grammar school with Jack, Emma and Jack have remained friends. Emma went to St. Francis High School and will be heading to San Diego State. We had a chance to talk to a couple of parents that we knew from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.

From there, we headed to Kiki's graduation party. We ended up staying at this party a lot later than I expected. We closed down the party sitting in the backyard talking to Kiki's parents (Dana and Bob) and another couple. Bob is working on a book about Janusz Kusociński, a polish track star from the 1930s.

Christmas Eve 2014

Christmas 2014Sharon, Jack and I headed to Good Shepherd for the Christmas Eve 4:00 pm Mass. After attending Mass at St. Ignatius the last two years, it was nice to be back at Good Shepherd. The church did not seem as crowded as it did three years ago. We got there at 3:30 pm and were still able to get some seats. It was nice to see a number of families that we have known for years (Banacki, Ralph, Smith, Marchant...). We ran into Alan on the way out...

From there we headed to Tim's house for Christmas Eve. After hosting Christmas Eve the last three years, it was a refreshing change to go to someone else's house for dinner. The group totalled fifteen, including Tom and Becky, Tim and Kathy, Leah's parents, Kevin and Leah, Eileen and Will, Jim Dunn, Eric, Jack and Sharon and I. Tim and Kathy made a great dinner of cornish game hens, rice and asparagus.

It seems like there were more presents than previous years. As a result, the evening ran later. By the time, we got home, I wrapped a few presents for Christmas morning and Jack walked the dog, it was almost 1:00 am.

With Kevin and Leah expecting a baby in June, next Thankgiving and Christmas are going to be very, very different!

Rudy Jugoz organized a small "golf tournament" for selected IT staff with the Sutter Health CEO at Whitney Oaks. I played in a foursome with Rudy, Dave Hamilton and Lew Gasper. Van Johnson, the CEO, played in the second group with Debbie Sleigh, Todd Peterson and Julie Cooper. The third foursome was John Muncaster, Mike Marchant, Ed Brooks and Allen King.

I was in trouble from the moment I stepped on the driving range. I have never felt so uncomfortable on the driving range. I probably should have walked back and got a second bucket of balls to hit, but I did not. I got off to a terrible start; I shot a 26 over the first three holes and a 64 on the front nine. I started to settle down about the seventh hole and actually had a 55 on the back nine.

The fourteen was the closet to the pin on the back nine. I teed off first for the group and hit a great 7 iron to within about 18 feet of the pin. Dave got up right behind me and hit a shot within about 6 feet of the pin.

I ended up with a 119 and "won" high gross. Lew won low gross with an 89, while Dave won closet to the pin on the back nine and low score using Callway.

Afterwards I met Sharon and Jack at the rental in Citrus Heights. The rental has some dry rot and Sharon had done a walk through with a contractor to look at what needs to be done. It is the same contractor that we used to fix up the East View property before we sold it in 2000.
