This weekend the Cub Scouts are holding a Raingutter Regatta. Both Sharon and I have been working with Jack over the last week [we got the kit at the pack meeting last Thursday] to get the boat ready for Saturday.

My Life 1978
I started playing rugby in college in the fall of 1977. I played the 1978, 1979 and 1980 seasons with the UC Davis Rugby Team. Nooter, Geselbracht and I jumped to the Davis City Rugby Team for the 1981 season and then to the Sacramento Capitol's Rugby Team in 1982. I played a couple of games with the Capitol's in 1983.

Pleasant passage through Plumas
There was an article in the Sunday Sacramento Bee travel section titled Pleasant passage through Plumas. It mentions the Dorado Inn where we have spent a week every summer for the last 18 years. The article includes the following paragraph and picture.
I have watched many a sunset from this spot!
Calvin and Cheryl Westra sip wine as they enjoy another day in paradise, in this case a sunset on Lake Almanor in northern Plumas County. They own and operate the Dorado Inn on Almanor's east shore, one of many lodges around the lake. 'Our main clientele is people from Sacramento, San Jose and the Bay Area,' says Calvin Westra. 'It's definitely made up of multigenerational families.'

2005 Soccer Game 3
Jack played in his third soccer game of the season. He scored the first goal of the game and had one other strong shot. Jack also had a great assist; he brought the ball down one sideline and passed the ball in front of the goal where one of his teammates scored. In the second quarter, he and one of the other kids with a very strong leg played fullbacks. The coach positioned them at midfield and the other team was never able to move the ball into our half of the field. He played goalie for the last quarter of the game. The team won by a score of 6 to 0. Their record for the year is now 3 wins and 1 loss.

One of the digital pictures that I found on my old laptap is a picture of Drew playing Sharon's guitar in August of 1997. It is posted in the entry titled Drew with Sharon's guitar.
Everybody Hates Chris
Google Video is hosting the pilot episode of UPN's Everybody Hates Chris. I actually watched the whole episode and, although I am not sure that I am impressed with the show, I am very impressed with the technology.

Longest Aerial Tramway
An initial e-mail from Wallen last Friday triggered several e-mails back and forth between Wallen, Nooter and I. In part, John's note made me think of the time that Nooter dragged me on to the world's longest aerial tramway to the top of Sandia Peak in Albuquerque, New Mexico [I am not crazy about heights!]. Rob ended up calling from his daughter's soccer practice and we spent some time catching up.
Afterwards, I started thinking that I had some digital pictures from the trip to Albuquerque. For part of 1997, I carried an early Casio digital camera. With Sharon in the city Friday night, I pulled my old IBM Thinkpad 760CD out of the closet and started digging around. I found about 90 digital pictures from 1997. I posted some of the pictures from the Albuquerque trip in the entry titled the Nooters in Albuquerque.
I had also been wondering recently how much of my old e-mail was on this computer. It turns out that there is a lot of old e-mail. In a quick review, I was able to find several things including a long e-mail that I wrote to Nooter after my first two dates with Sharon in early 1995. I am going to post some pieces of that e-mail in the future.

2005 Indian Summer Golf Classic
I played in the Sutter Indian Summer Golf Classic at the Cameron Park Country Club. This scramble tournament is a fund raiser for the Sutter Medical Center Foundation. The foursome included the CIO [my boss], the IT CFO and one of the other department directors.
We were ten over par; we had two birdies, eight pars, four bogies and four double bogies. I had a hard time getting my drives going, but had a couple of long fairway woods and putts that helped us. We got rained on pretty hard for two plus holes towards the end of the day.
