Mangels Ranch Adobe

Possibly dating back to 1836, this adobe structure is one of the oldest in Solano County [California].

The structure remains a mystery with many theories as to who constructed it and what it was used for. One such idea is that it was part of the mission system and provided shelter to missionaries and their converts.

In addition the site was on the route of both Stages Lines and the Pony Express (1860-1861) route from Sacramento to the Benicia Ferry and on to Oakland. This route was used when the steams ship could not navigate the Sacramento River or riders missed the connection with the ships to San Francisco.

The site was part of the original 230 acres acquired in 1876 by Louis Mangels from money earned during his days as a cooper in San Francisco.

Because this site has been part of the history of California and Solano County it was preserved by Headwaters Development to provide inspiration, education and a monument to the adventurous spirit which is… California!
