Laguna Youth Baseball Score Keepers Clinic

I attended the Laguna Youth Baseball score keepers clinic on Wednesday night.  I am going to be the official score keeper for Jack's rec team this year.

When Jack started playing tournament baseball in the summer of 2008, I started keeping my own scorebook so I would have some idea of who was doing what.  Prior to this, I had never kept score.  When Jack played minor rec ball last spring, the coach's wife kept score and the coach published box scores and summary statistics so I did not keep score.

At Cooperstown last June, I decided to just relax and enjoy the games rather than keep score.  Afterwards, I regretted it.  Without being able to look back at the score book, I kept thinking what the heck happened.

When Jack started playing in the Northern California Cal Ripken Tournament last July, I ended up as the official scorer for the team.  I also generated box scores and summary statistics.  This continued when Jack played tournament play with the Outlaws last fall.  When basketball season started, it morphed into keeping score for Jack's basketball team.

I was an economics major in college.  At higher levels, economics is a lot of math and statistics.  I enjoyed the statistics then and still do now, but fell in love with the computers that we used for to do the heavy lifting for advanced statistics and the economic modeling.
