2010 Kings versus Raptors plus Rally for 'Reke Roy
Lew Gasper and I went to the Sacramento Kings versus Toronto Raptors NBA Basketball Game. Trailing 51 to 45 at the half, the Kings scored 43 points in the third quarter. The Kings continued to pull away in the fourth quarter and won the game by the score of 113 to 90.
The Kings designated the game "Rally for Reke Roy Night." They gave out 10,000 free "Reke Roy" T-shirts and 5,000 face-on-a-sticks which include an image Evans. The pre-game introductions included a couple of extras touting Tyreke Evans for Rookie of the Year (ROY).
I was a little worried before the game that Evans would wilt under all of the attention. The opposite happened. Evans turned in his first triple-double! He had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in 36 minutes. He was 7 for 15 from the field, 0 for 2 from three and 5 for 7 from the free throw line.
Evans loves to drive to the basket, but actually kicked the ball out to open shooters three or four times. If he can add this to his game consistently, the Kings will be a much better team.
Evans also had an amazing circus shot. Fouled on a baseline drive late in the second quarter, Evans tossed up a floater from behind the backboard that went in.
Beno Udrith was actually the leading scorer for the Kings. He had 24 points on 10 for 14 from the field, 2 for 2 from three and 2 for 2 from the free throw line. Beno added 4 rebounds and 8 assists.
Center Andrea Bargnani was the leading scorer for the Raptors. He had 20 points on 8 for 12 from the field, 1 for 1 from three and 3 for 4 from the free throw line. Touted as one of the major free agents next summer, Chris Bosh looked out of sync. He had 14 points on 6 for 20 from the field.
