Nebraska

Late Friday night, Sharon and I watched Nebraska as a HD rental on the AppleTV. We are trying to knock out as many of the Oscar nominated films as possible before the Academy Awards show in early March. It has been nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director for Payne, Best Actor for Bruce Dern, Best Supporting Actress for June Squibb, Best Original Screenplay for Nelson and Best Cinematography for Papamichael.

This is the seventh of the nine movies nominated for Best Picture that we seen, including Philomena, 12 Year A Slave, Dallas Buyers Club, Captain Phillips, Gravity and American Hustle. We will not get a chance to see Her or Wolf of Wall Street before Sunday.

Nebraska is billed as a road trip film. Shot in black and white, it is set in Montana and Nebraska. The views of the countryside are interesting. I have ridden through this part of the country virtually on the bike, but [note of self] I would like to drive through it at some point in the next couple of years.

Neither Sharon nor I enjoyed this movie. Sharon said "it is terrible." While I appreciate what they were trying to do, I am frankly surprised it is one of the Best Picture nominations.
