On Friday, Sharon and I went to see Philomena at the Tower Theater and then went to Ella's afterwards. We are trying to knock out as many of the Oscar nominated films as possible before the Academy Awards show in early March. The film is nominated in four categories at the 2014 Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actress [Judi Dench]. This is the sixth of the nine movies nominated for Best Picture that we seen.
The film tells the true story of Philomena Lee's 50-year-long search for her son. The film is based on the book The Lost Child of Philomena Lee by journalist Martin Sixsmith.
I hadn't read anything about the story ahead of time. I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. I don't believe that it will win the Oscar for Best Picture of Best Actress, but it is a solid, enjoyable film.
