New Promo Shots for the Andrew Heringer Band
The pictures that Drew has been using for posters and other promotional literature for his band are pretty dated. Most of the pictures have one or two guys that are not currently playing in the band. He recently worked with photographer to get a new set of promo shots. Two of the resulting pictures are shown below. You can find a full set of twenty-five pictures here.

NBA Power Rankings 2009-2010 Week 5
After going to last Thursday's Kings game, Jack and I have watched parts of Friday's game against the Nets and Sunday's game against the Hornets. Obviously they have faced some weaker opponets, but this is a very fun team to watch.
The Kings ranked 16th in Marc Stein's weekly power rankings of NBA teams, up from 19th last week!

The Kings take a .500 record into December. We repeat: Sacramento is a .500 team despite losing Kev Martin to a wrist injury. With apologies to anyone else worth nominating, this is your Surprise Team of November.

Christmas Tree 2009
Facing a very busy next nine days, we decided to get a Christmas Tree early this year. Five of the last six years (2008, 2007, 2005, 2004 and 2003), we have gotten a flocked Christmas tree in the Cal Expo parking lot. Driving down to Cal Expo after Outlaws batting practice, we got a rude awakening; the Cal Expo Christmas Tree lot is not there this year.
After debating what to do, we headed towards Elk Grove. Heading down Highway 99, I noticed a lot north of Sheldon on West Stockton advertising flocked trees. It turns out that it is the same company that has been at Cal Expo the last few years, Lamb's Christmas Trees. They indicated that they have been at this site for fifteen years and that they did not have a second lot at the Cal Expo lot this year because the rent was too high.
Although the selection of flocked trees was not as large as some previous years, we picked out a nice tree. The flocking was still wet. I am going to pick it up on my way home after work on Monday.

Laura, Liz, Mary and Sharon again
For the second year in a row, Sharon got together with Laura, Liz and Mary on the day after Thanksgiving [picture from 2008]. This year they met at Rudy's Hideaway. Laura, Mary and Sharon went to grammar school and high school together, while Liz went to high school with them.

Frémont's historic second overland expedition of 1843-44 was the first in which he reached California. He and his companions entered California in the dead of winter, camped across the snowbound Sierra, spent a month at Sutter's Fort in the Sacramento Valley, and then continued south through the San Joaquin Valley. Frémont's report added to the growing American interest in the Far West and California, making this 1844 expedition one of the most influential events in American westward expansion. Frémont camped at this site on March 26, 1844.

Thanksgiving 2009
After the Run to Feed the Hungry, we got cleaned up and headed to Jim Dunn's house for Thanksgiving dinner. Jim is an old friend of Sharon's family. The group this year included Sharon's brother Tom, his wife Becky, his youngest son Eric, Sister's brother Tim, his wife Kathy, their oldest daughter Erin, Drew, Jack, Sharon and I. We were missing Sharon's nephew Kevin and niece Eileen.
We had a nice dinner. Drew got out the guitar and played a couple of songs after the meal.

2009 Run To Feed The Hungry
For the fifth time in the last six years [2009, 2008, 2006, 2005 and 2004], Sharon, Jack and I ran the Run to Feed the Hungry. We entered in 2007, but I was feeling under the weather and we decided not to run before heading to San Francisco for Thanksgiving.
Jack and I ran the course in 1:04:39 for an average pace of 10:26. For the first time, they split the start for the 5k and the 10k. The 5k started 20 minutes after the 10k. As a result, it took us less than a minute to get to the starting line. Although it did not impact our pace, it seemed like there was a lot more people running the 10k this year. In previous years, the number of people around us dropped about the 3rd mile. This year, we were running with lots of people the whole distance. Sharon ran a 1:24:01 for an average of 13:33.
Drew is living in River Park. He rode his bike over and met his at the finish line.

2009 Kings versus Knicks
Jack and I went to the Sacramento Kings versus New York Knicks NBA Basketball game. Somewhat unexpectedly, I am enjoying watching this Kings team a lot. It is built of a group of very young players who play with passion and have some athleticism.
The Kings pulled away in the second half to win by a score of 111 to 97. The Kings led by 20 points after three quarters. Last year, the Kings had 2 wins and 7 losses in games that I saw in person. This year I have already seen them win twice!
Led by Donte Green with 24 point (6 for 7 from three), 5 assists and 6 blocks, seven Kings scored in double figures. Evans had 19 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists.
At 5' 9", Nate Robinson was a force of nature. He had 25 points (4 for 8 from three). I swear that I saw him almost outrebound Jason Thompson in traffic near the rim; I looked like he was flying rather than jumping.
The Knicks are a bad team. I thought that Coach Mike D'Antoni's head was going to explode on the sidelines as the Knicks made bonehead play after bonehead play.
Yankee's pitcher CC Sabathia was at the game sitting in the front row to our right. He played high school sports in Vallejo.

Q: What is the "30 for 30" documentary you wish was made that wasn't? -- Tyler, Seattle
S[ports] G[uy]: Andre the Giant. Hands down. It never got past the discussion stage because the WWE owns the key footage and would have wanted to produce it; we would have wanted an elite filmmaker. So that was a nonstarter. But other than Muhammad Ali, no other athlete from the past 40 years was more memorable, beloved or distinct. I have never met anyone who knew Andre who didn't immediately turn to mush when you asked them about him. Every person who ever befriended him has 10 Andre stories, and everyone who ever crossed paths with him even briefly has three. We could have gone two hours on Andre, easy. So that's No. 1 for me. My runners-up: Tim Richmond, the Clippers, the Artest melee and how Rocky Balboa ended the Cold War.
