With Jack staying at his cousins overnight, Sharon and I went to dinner at the Wasabi Sushi & Hibachi Grill in Elk Grove. This restaurant has opened in the last week around the corner from our house.
Hibachi-style is a North American term for Japanese teppanyaki cooking, in which gas-heated hotplates are integrated into tables around which many people can sit and eat at once. The chef performs the cooking in front of the diners, typically with theatrical flair. The popular Japanese restaurant chain Benihana uses hibachi grill cooking as its trademark.
We both enjoyed the meal and the atmosphere; this is definitely a place that we will go back to again.
Update: Based on the menu that we took, business hours are Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for lunch and 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for dinner. On Saturday and Sunday, dinner is from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
My family and I had planned on eating here for weeks after attending my husband's graduation. There was a total of about 12 people. We got there, and were seated because we had made reservations a few weeks ahead of time. The server took our drink order and disappeared for what seemed like 30 minutes. There was plenty of business but not near enough wait staff. They forgot to give us our soup and we didn't even realize that until we were eating our dinner. The food was comparable to Benihana's, but their drinks were horrible.
ReplyDeleteAfter we spent about $300 for all of us to eat, a woman comes and tried to politely ask us to either leave or move to a waiting table outside because she had other customers waiting. Now there are plenty of places to eat in EG and I have been to MANY of then but have NEVER been asked to leave because there were "other customers waiting". We were very stunned and disappointed to say the least. In the future I will be making the the drive to Benihana's to get the customer service that most people expect when dining out.
My wife and I just went there because it's down the street from our house and it looked good, and it was excellent!!! My wife got the vegetable dish. She was disappointed when they gave her this dinky little portion of vegetables, but then was pleasantly surprised when she found out that this was just her side order of vegetables and a HUGE order was coming as her main dish. My chicken Teriyaki was excellent, the salad was great with a wonderful Ginger dressing, and the chef was entertaining and very good. We will DEFINITELY go back there (and try something new next time, too).
