Jack played in his first game of the 2009 Laguna Youth Baseball Minor League Season. The Twins played against the Cardinals. Oddly, there was no one on the other team that Jack or I recognized.
At the plate, Jack was 1 for 3 with a run scored and a RBI. He batted third. In his first at-bat in the top of the first, Jack blooped one over the second baseman for a single. He came around to score the Twin's first run. Jack popped out to the third baseman in his second plate appearance. He came up in the top of the sixth with bases loaded and no outs. Jack hit a pop up to the right side that the pitcher did not catch. A run scored and everyone was safe. After the play was over, the umpire decided that the infield fly rule was in effect and called Jack out. I am still confused about this ruling; it seems to me that the umpire has to call this during the play.
In the field, Jack played 6 innings at third base. He handled one grounder and made a nice throw to second for the out. Jack also handled the ball cleanly about half a dozen other times on throws to third base.
Trailing 6 to 2 in the top of the sixth, the Twins rallied to tie the game. They held the Cardinals in the bottom of the sixth and the game ended as a tie with a final score of 6 to 6. Their record for the season is 0 wins, 0 losses and 1 tie.
