2009 LYB Minor Twins Game #2
Jack played in his second game of the 2009 Laguna Youth Baseball Minor League Season. The Twins played against the Braves. There were two kids on the team from the AA Mariners Team we played on, but no one from the Gunners.
At the plate, Jack was 2 for 2 with two doubles, a sacrifice fly, a hit by pitch, two RBIs and two runs scored. In his first at-bat, with no outs and runners at first and second, Jack hit a long fly ball to deep center. The fielder made a nice lunging catch. The runners tagged up and advanced. The lead runner scored on a throwing error. Jack hit a ball over the third baseman just fair for a double and a RBI in his second plate appearance. In his third at-bat, Jack got hit in the middle of his back. He eventually came around to score. Jack hit a ball very hard up the middle for a double; it is the hardest that I have seen him hit a ball this spring.
In the field, Jack play three uneventful innings at third base: the first, second and fifth. For the first time in almost two years, Jack pitched. He pitched the third and fourth innings. Jack threw 51 pitches and gave up 2 unearned runs. I am amazed at how well he is pitching. It will be interesting to see what happens when he runs up against some of the Gunners on other teams.
The Twins won the game by a score of 17 to 5 in five innings. Their record for the season is 1 win, 0 losses and 1 tie.
