My book for February is The Relic Master. Carmen's parents talked about the book while we were at Drew and Carmen's house at Christmas. Always looking for something different to read, I decided to pick it up.
Set in 1517, the main character is a relic hunter who procures “authentic” religious relics for wealthy and influential clients. The historical fiction includes a number of actual historical figures including: the German painter Albrecht Dürer, Fredrick III, Cardinal Albert of Brandenburg Archbishop of Mainz, Friar Martin Lurther and Pope Leo X.
It enjoyed the book, but it is a little bit pedestrian. It has a surprisingly low score on Goodreads. I did find the background about relics and indulgences interesting.
I didn't realize until finishing the book that The Shroud of Chambéry is now The Shroud of Turin. Although not displayed very often, this is something I would be interested in seeing...
