2010 LYB Major Angels Game #6

With the weather finally warming up, the Angels played their sixth game of the 2010 Laguna Youth Baseball Major season. The Angels played the Giants. Coming into the game, the Giants had a record of 5 wins and 0 losses. The two teams met earlier in the season and the Giants won by the score of 12 to 6.

At the plate, Jack was 2 for 2 with a walk and two runs scored. In his first at-bat in the top of the first, he hit the first pitch off the end of the bat through the left side for single. Jack eventually came around to score. Jack walked on four pitches in his second plate appearance. He eventually came around to score again.

His third at-bat was the most interesting this season. With one out in the top of the fifth, Jack bunted the first pitch down the third base line for a single. Scott was watching the game with us and we were speculating whether the coaches called the bunt or Jack did it on his own. Talking to him after the game, Jack said that he decided to bunt on his own. The Giants third baseman was a big 12 year old who is not very mobile. Jack said that he felt that if he got down a good bunt they would never get him out. He ended the inning still on second base.

In the field, Jack played third base, shortstop, first base, centerfield and then third base again. In the first inning at third base, he had a routine grounder and threw the runner out at first. In the third inning while playing shortstop, Jack made a nice backhand stop in the hole and threw the runner out at first. In the fourth inning at first base, Jack took throws from the third baseman and pitcher to get two put outs. Unfortunately, after a walk, Jack failed to hold on to a throw from third for an error. Niko followed with an error on a ground ball to short that allowed the Giants to score their first run of the game. Jack played the fifth inning in center field and fielded one single up the middle.

Walking only one runner this game compared to 10 runners in the first meeting, the Angels won the game by a score of 7 to 4. The box score is here and the game log is here. The Angels now have 5 wins and 1 loss for the season.
