2010 LYB Major Angels Game #5

On another cold and windy evening, the Angels played their fifth game of the 2010 Laguna Youth Baseball Major season. They played the Dodgers. There were two kids on the other team that Jack has played with before: Jake on the AAA Padres and Denis on the fall ball Yankees.

At the plate, Jack was 1 for 3 with a double, reached base on errors twice and scored two runs. In his first at-bat, he hit a 2 and 2 pitch right at the second baseman to drive in Greysen. The second baseman misplayed the ball and Jack was safe at first. Jack eventually scored on a grounder that Ben hit to the shortstop. In his second plate appearance, Jack drove the first pitch down the third base line for a double to drive in Zack and Greysen. He eventually scored on Niko's grounder to shortstop. Jack hit an 0 and 2 pitch at the third baseman in his third at-bat. The first baseman did not handle the throw and Jack was safe at first. With the ball bouncing around the infield, Jack made an attempt to go all the way to third; he was out at third.

In the field, Jack played three innings at shortstop, two innings at first base and pitched the sixth inning. He had no balls hit to him at shortstop. In the second inning, Dominic made a strong throw to Jack covering second to get Jake out trying to steal. From behind home plate, it looked like Jake was safe, but Jack said later that he was blocking the plate. At first base, Jack had one ball hit to his right that he fielded, waved off everyone else and ran to the base himself.

Jack pitched the sixth inning. He threw 13 pitches with 8 strikes. Jack struck out two batters wrapped around a ground out to Niko at shortstop.

Scoring all of their runs off of walks, the Dodgers failed to get a hit. Fourteen of the eighteen outs were strike-outs. The other four outs included a pop-up to Niko at pitcher, the grounder to Niko at shortstop, the grounder to Jack at first base and the throw to Jack covering second to get the runner stealing.

The Angels jumped out to a 6 run lead in the top of the first and never looked back. The Angels won the game by the game of 12 to 4. The box score is here and the game log is here. The Angels now have 4 wins and 1 loss for the season.
