2010 LYB Major Angels Game #7

On another cold and windy day, the Angels played their seventh game of the 2010 Laguna Youth Baseball Major season. It actually rained up until about 30 minutes before the game started. The Angels played the Braves. Jeffery, one of Jack's classmates, played on the other team.

This was not Jack's best game at the plate or on the base paths. I took him Tuesday night to work out with a hitting coach. This coach spent the session changing on how Jack uses his lower body. I worry about how it is going to impact his hitting in the short term, but think that it is the right investment for the long term.

At the plate, Jack was 0 for 2, reached base on an error and walked. In his first at-bat, Jack popped up a 2 and 1 pitch to the pitcher for an out. He walked on 5 pitches against Jeffery in his second at-bat. Although the first base coach told him not to, Jack took a big turn at first to draw the throw. Niko scampered home from third and Jack was caught in the run down. He hit a 0 and 2 pitch at the third baseman who could not handle the ball and Jack was safe at first. Jack stole second and then got caught leaning the wrong way on a pick off move and was thrown out at third.

In the field, Jack played two innings at third, one inning in center field and two innings at first. Jack only handled the ball three times. In the second inning, Niko caught a runner taking a causal lead off of third and threw to Jack for the out. In the fifth inning, there were two 3Dk's (dropped third strikes). On the first one, the ball went back to the pitcher who then threw to Jack for the out. On the second one, Jack could not reach a wide throw by the catcher and the runner was safe at first.

For the second time in three games, the Angels pitcher threw a combined no-hitter. Against the Dodgers, the Angels pitchers struck out 14 batters. Tonight against the Braves, the pitchers stuck out 15 batters.

Scoring in every inning, the Angels won the game by a score of 7 to 1. The box score is here and the game log is here. The Angels now have 6 wins and 1 loss for the season.
