The Angels played their fourth game of the 2010 Laguna Youth Baseball Major season. They played the Giants. Both teams came into the game with a record of 3 wins and 0 losses. There were three kids on the other team that Jack has played with before: Kyle on the AAA Padres; Louie on the AAA Padres and the 10U All-Star Team and Tanner on the Minor Twins.
At the plate, Jack was 2 for 2 with a double, a walk and a run scored. In his first at-bat, he smoked a 0 and 1 pitch into center. The ball bounced to the fence and Jack rolled into second. Jack and Niko scored on Ben's double. He walked on five pitches in second plate appearance, but was thrown out trying to steal second. Jack drove a 1 and 0 pitch through the left side for a single in his last at-bat to lead off the bottom of the sixth. He ended the inning on first base.
Jack played an inning at third, two innings at shortstop and two innings at first base. At first base, he had five put-outs: two on throws from the catcher; one on a high pop-up in front of first base; one on a high bouncer ranging to his right; and one on a low grounder to his left that he knocked down.
I cringe a little when I see Jack playing shortstop. While he played there a lot in AA and AAA, he has just not played there much in the last two years. Jack had only one ball hit at him in two innings at shortstop: a spinning grounder hit to his left. Although Jack and Coach Rod said that the ball took a funny bounce, I charged Jack with his first error of the year.
With the Angels leading 5 to 4 after two innings, the Giants blew the game open with four runs in the third and three runs in the fourth. All of the runs that the Angels gave up in the third were unearned. The box score is here and the game log is here. The Angels now have 3 wins and 1 loss for the season.
Due to all of the rain that we have had this spring, the Angels came into this game with eight days without a game or practice. The pitchers seemed rusty...
