Nocturnal Animals

Sharon and I watched Nocturnal Animals on a BluRay DVD. This is still part of our continuing effort to see all of the Oscar nominated films.

The movie is based on the 1993 novel Tony and Susan by Austin Wright. The film stars Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal. Michael Shannon was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. We have now seen all five Best Supporting Actor performances.

It is a fairly interesting film with two interwoven storylines. One thread is Amy Adams' current life with flashbacks to her previous marriage. The other thread is a book that Adams is reading. Written by her first husband, the book is an allegory for the loss he endured from their divorce.

Walking Tiber after seeing the film, Sharon and I both agreed that we enjoyed the film and would recommend it. Sharon said that she liked the movie better than a couple of the best picture nominees, including Hell or High Water.
