New Year's Day, Sharon and I watched Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery. This is a sequel to the first Knives Out film that we saw in 2020.
The movie was filmed on the Greek Island of Spetses. We visited Spetses in October. I recognized the harbor that they used at the beginning of the film; we walked through the area.
Daniel Craig reprises his role as master detective Benoit Blanc as he takes on a new case revolving around tech billionaire Miles Bron (played by Edward Norton) and his closest friends. The ensemble cast also includes Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, Madelyn Cline, Kate Hudson, and Dave Bautista.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery was nominated for six Critics' Choice Movie Awards (winning two) and two Golden Globe Awards. It was named one of the ten best films of 2022 by the National Board of Review. The film received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay at the 95th Academy Awards.
I am somewhat perlexed at the positive reviews and critical aclaim that the film has gotten. It is mildly entertaining, but the plot is kind of a mess; I am surprised it is nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay. I would give the film a "B-" at best.
