2006 Back to School Night

Sharon and I went to Back to School Night at Jack's school. The principal introduced the staff, the parish priests and the president of the school board spoke.

Afterwards, we went to Jack's class and his teacher gave the third grade parents an overview of the coming year. This is going to be a more intense year. For the first time, the kids will be getting letter grades. Instead of teaching the material until the class has learned it, the teacher stressed that they have a set curriculum that they have to cover by the end of the year. The resulting pace is going to be much different. Additionally, as the teacher repeated, the students are now reading to learn, rather than learning to read.
