While Jack had soccer practice, I ran laps around the park. Since the two vacations in July, I have been struggling with my running. I have labored through a number of runs with times that I am embarrassed to report. I finally felt like I could run today. Over the first four miles, I turned mile splits of 9:12, 8:54, 8:45 and 8:26. I ended up covering the first four miles with an average pace of 8:49. I coasted the last two miles and covered 6.00 miles with an average pace of 9:04.
While not spectacular, it is the second fastest average pace that I have run in the last four months. Combined with the fact that I found out that the cut-off time for the American River 50 is thirteen hours, I have some newfound optimisim that I will be able to accomplish my goals for the next eight months. The next race that I am planning to run is a half marathon during the Sacramento Cowtown Marathon.
