Jack and I ended sports day (little league tryouts in the morning, basketball game in the afternoon and Kings game at night) by going to the Sacramento Kings versus Denver Nuggets basketball game. The Kings won by a score of 94 to 87. The Kings beat Denver at home for the 20th successive time, a streak dating to January 7, 1997.
We were disappointed that Iverson did not play; he had a sprained ankle and the flu. I was looking forward to seeing Anthony and Iverson playing together.
Nevertheless, it was fun to watch Artest guard Anthony. Artest stole the ball off the dribble twice from Anthony in the first half. Coming off a season-high 46 minutes in Friday night's overtime win in Portland, Anthony shot 7-of-25 and had 20 points, more than ten points below his league leading scoring average. Carmelo was clearly brothered all game by Artest's defense.
Artest had 21 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, four steals and no turnovers. Martin had a team-high 28 points, the fifth consecutive game in which he has scored 20-plus.
Last year, the Kings beat the Nuggets on January 31 to bring their record to 19 wins and 26 losses. After beating the Nuggets tonight, they have the same exact record.
After the game, we met Sharon and Janie at Malabar near Acro Arena.
