As training for the American River 50, I took advantage of the President's Day holiday to take a long run. I ran 20 miles in 3 hours and 40 minutes. This works out to a pace of 11:01 minutes per mile. I tested some different strategies. I ran 20 to 30 minutes at a stretch and then walked 5 minutes; this approach really seemed to help my legs. I also experimented with eating a couple of different food while I was running to see how my stomach would react. Overall, I felt pretty good about the workout and optimistic that I can actually cover 50 miles in April.
