2010 PAL JV Comp SEAs versus Holy Spirit

In the third league game of the season, the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Eagles played Holy Spirit. The Eagles lost to Holy Spirit last weekend in the semi-finals of the St. Charles tournament.

In the rematch, Holy Spirit was missing several players, including their best player. With only two players on the bench, Holy Spirit played a very tight zone. They packed the key and dared the Eagles to take outside shots.

Initially, the strategy worked. Taking a number of long jumpers, the Eagles shot 2 for 12 in the first quarter and trailed by the score of 7 to 4 at the end of the quarter.

The Eagles settled down in the second quarter and went on to lead by the score of 15 to 13 at the half. Turning the ball over seven times in the third quarter, the Eagles clung to a 21 to 19 lead at the end of the quarter.

The Eagles settled down again in the fourth quarter and took better care of the ball. Jack hit two jumpers and the Eagles made 3 of their 4 free throws.

The final score was SEAS 30, Holy Spirit 23. The score box is here and the season game log is here.

Jack had 6 points on 3 for 9 from the field. He added 2 steals and 1 rebound. Unfortunately, he had 4 turnovers. Several of these made me more than a little crazy. For example, Jack was called for traveling on a made lay-up; I did not agree with the call.

It will be interesting to see if this game impacts the seeding for the year-end tournament. I would assume that teams will be seeded based on their record in league play. As a result, this could be an advantage for the Eagles in the post season tournament.
