Sunday night, Sharon and I finished watching season one of Big Little Lies. The series is based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty. Season one premiered on HBO on February 19, 2017.
Big Little Lies stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman and Shailene Woodley. It tells the story of three emotionally troubled women in Monterey, California, who become embroiled in a murder investigation. Laura Dern, Zoë Kravitz and Adam Scott play supporting roles. In one of those odd coincidences, I just listened to a Bill Simmon's podcast with Adam Scott.
Critically acclaimed, the series received 16 Emmy Award nominations and won eight, including Outstanding Limited Series and acting awards for Kidman, Alexander Skarsgård, and Dern. The trio also won Golden Globe Awards. The show won a Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or Television Film.
Although they played fast and loose with geography, I enjoyed the scenery. Much of the series was filmed on location on the Monterey Peninsula and Big Sur. Several scenes were shot in Pacific Grove and Carmel Highlands. Two of the houses that they used have to be Malibu, rather than Northern California.
I enjoyed the series and recommend it. I guessed where the plot was going towards the end of episode three.
