Saturday night, Sharon and I watched Total Recall. Two weeks ago, we watched Sharon Stone is Basic Instinct. Listening to the Bill Simmons podcast with Sharon Stone, she talked about training for her role in Total Recall.
The movie is a 1990 American science fiction action film directed by Paul Verhoeven. It stars Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone.
The film is loosely based on the 1966 Philip K. Dick short story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale". With a budget of $50–60 million, Total Recall was one of the most expensive films made at the time of its release.
The film tells the story of a construction worker [Schwarzenegger] who suddenly finds himself embroiled in espionage on Mars. He is unable to determine if the experiences are real or the result of memory implants.
This is a good example of a science fiction film that didn't age well. The vehicles, furniture, CRT screens and video phones all look very dated rather than futuristic. While I enjoyed Basic Instinct, I didn't find this film rewatchable!
