Basic Instinct is a 1992 erotic thriller film directed by Paul Verhoeven and written by Joe Eszterhas. The film follows San Francisco police detective Nick Curran (Michael Douglas), who is investigating the brutal murder of a wealthy rock star. During the investigation Curran becomes involved in a torrid and intense relationship with the prime suspect, Catherine Tramell (Sharon Stone), an enigmatic writer.
I think that I saw the movie in the 90s, but frankly didn't remember any of the details of the plot. It is definitely rewatchable!
Four other related notes:
- First, Sharon didn't enjoy Sharon Stone's book. It is more a cathartic journey than a typical biography.
- Second, on the way to Sea Ranch, Sharon and I listened to The Ringer's ‘Basic Instinct’ Rewatchable With Bill Simmons, Chris Ryan, and Mallory Rubin. The podcast breaks down the movie; both of us enjoyed the it.
- Third, I listened to Bill Simmons interview Sharon Stone on his podcast in the last week. It is amazing how many major stars Stone has worked with over the years. I recommend the interview.
- Finally, we have added Total Recall to our list of movies to watch.
