Game Winning RBI! [2010 LYB Major Angels Game #3]

Jack played in his second game of the 2010 Laguna Youth Baseball Major League Season. His Angels played the White Sox.

At the plate, Jack was 1 for 2 with a walk and the game winning RBI. The Angels have him batting third behind Niko and Breyton. In his first at-bat, Jack walked on six pitches. Trying to steal second, he got doubled off first on a pop fly to end the inning. Fouling off four pitches, Jack drove a 3 and 2 pitch up the middle to lead off the fourth. He thought about trying to stretch it into a double. He went to second on an error by the first baseman. Jack got to third on an infield out. The next batter walked. Unfortunately, with the bases loaded and one out, the Angels were unable to get Jack home and he ended the inning at third.

With the game tied 3 to 3 in the bottom of the sixth, Niko started the inning with a single through the left side. Breyton drove his first pitch in left center. Niko went to third and Breyton went to second on the throw to third. Jack came up for his third at-bat. The White Sox brought in a new pitcher (#30): their biggest kid who throws left handed. The White Sox coach gathered up the infielders and emphasized that they needed to make the throw to home. With the infield playing in, Jack hit a 2 and 1 pitch hard on the ground right at the second baseman. The ball took a big hop and the second baseman never found the handle. Even if he had, Niko had a big jump at third and it would have taken a spectacular play to get him out at home. Niko scored and Jack was safe at first to end the game. Much to Jack's chagrin, I scored it a fielder's choice.

In the field, Jack played two innings at first, two innings at third, sat out the fifth and played the sixth inning at shortstop. He had two put-outs and an assist. At first base, Jack had a put-out on a throw from the pitcher in the first inning. In the second inning, he made a great play. The shortstop bobbled a hard hit grounder. With a runner coming off second, the shortstop thought about trying to tag him, but ended up throwing late to Jack at first. The runner at second broke for third. Jack took the throw and immediately threw a strike to Ben at third to get the runner and end the inning. In the third inning while Jack was playing third, the catcher overthrew second trying to catch a runner stealing. The ball went into centerfield and the runner headed for third. Dominic fielded the ball and threw a strike to Jack at third to get the runner and end the inning.

The Angels won the game by a score of 4 to 3. The game log is here and the box score is here. The game that the Angels played last Wednesday against the Diamondbacks which was suspended due to lightning after three innings does not count and will apparently be replayed from the beginning. The Angels now have 2 wins and 0 losses for the season.
