Jesuit JV Baseball versus Sheldon

The Jesuit Marauders JV baseball team played the Sheldon Huskies in the second game of a three games series at Sheldon High School.

Leading off, Jack was 1 for 3 with a single and two RBIs. In his first at-bat, he hit a 1 and 1 pitch for a soft grounder to the right side and was called out at first. The second baseman's throw was high and I swear that the first baseman's foot was several inches off the bag… Coming up for a second time in the top of the first, Jack hit a 2 and 0 pitch for a grounder through the left side to drive in Chiappe and Sogard. He ended the inning there when Iwasa flied out to right. In his third at-bat, Jack crushed a 1 and 0 pitch for a line drive. The second baseman made a nice leaping catch for the out. Jack said after the game that it was one of the balls that he has hit the hardest all season.

Playing centerfield for fourth innings, Jack did not have an assist or a put-out. There were several hard hit balls to right and left center that he fielded. In the bottom of the fourth, a ball was hit to deep centerfield. Jack set up under the ball to make the catch, but it carried over his head for a triple. I have debated back and forth about scoring it as an error. With the wind blowing out, the ball sailed on him. At this point, I have not scored it as an error in the season statistics.

Jack pulled himself out of the game complaining of a migraine headache after the fourth inning.

Scoring 7 runs in the top of the first, the Marauders couldn't hold the lead. The Huskies tied the score at 11 to 11 in the bottom of the fifth. It seemed like it was going to be a repeat of the Folsom game that they lost; whoever batted last was going to win. After a scoreless sixth inning, the Marauders scored two runs in the top of the seventh and then held on to win by the score of 13 to 12. The box score is here and the scorecard is here.

Child (2-1, 0 starts, 8 appearances, 14.67 innings, ERA 3.34) was the winning pitcher. He pitched the sixth and seventh innings.

The Jesuit JV baseball team now has 17 wins and 2 losses. Their league record is 7 wins and 1 loss. The game log is here. The Marauders will play Sheldon again on Friday, a double header against De La Salle on Saturday and then a three game series against Pleasant Grove next week.
