Butterfield 8

With Elizbeth Taylor's death in March, Sharon and I started looking at the list of films in which she appeared. At the age of 28, Taylor won the first of two Best Actress awards for BUtterfield 8.

Sharon and I rented the movie on the AppleTV and watched it Saturday night May 2. It is an odd movie. Filmed more than 50 years ago in 1960, it feels very dated. The performance by Laurence Harvey, the leading man in the film, is very stilted. The film also stars Elizabeth Taylor's then husband Eddie Fisher.

It was not nominated for best picture in 1960. The best picture nominees were: The Apartment; The Alamo; Elmer Gantry; Sons and Lovers; and The Sundowners. The Apartment with Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine won best picture.

I only recommend the movie as a curiosity; it is Elizabeth Taylor in her prime.  After BUtterfield 8, Elizabeth Taylor made Cleopatra with Richard Burton.  Cleopatra is on our list to watch in the near future.
