Highway 50 in Nevada was named The Loneliest Road in America by Life magazine in July 1986. Watching Google Streetview as I am riding provides a sense of how desolate the area is. I am going to drive the road at some point...
On day 13, I covered 23.5 miles. Starting from the Cold Spring Pony Express station, I rode east on Highway 50. The first 16 miles were downhill and very fast. The road turned up and I started climbing with the grade reaching a moderate 6.5%. I finished on Highway 50 about 25 miles west of Austin.
The trip log for Virtually Biking Across America is here.
