Game of Thrones - Season One

After Bill Simmons wrote about the NBA using quotes from Game of Thrones, I started watching the series on the AppleTV. I finished watching season one last week.

While I was watching the series, I was reading Alexander the Great. In the book, armies of hundreds of thousands on men fight each other in close quarters with spears and swords. In the HBO series, you can a visual glimpse at the carnage that results from this type of warfare. It is an inconceivable mess. The book and the television series also echo similar themes of a wanton disregard for human life.

I enjoyed the first season of Game of Thrones and have started on season two. I am a little shocked at how many of the main characters they killed off towards the end of the first season. I am curious about the George Martin books, but they are probably way down on my list of priorities.
