Larkin and I went to the Sacramento Kings 2026-2027 season home opener versus the Portland Trail Blazers. Although it is hard for me to believe, we had been going to Kings games together for 42 years!?! Over the years, Larkin and I have tried to go to the first and last games of the season. We had dinner before the game at the Foundation (Italian Cobb Salad).
Sacramento led for all of the first half; they were ahead by the score of 64 to 59 at the break. The Trail Blazers went on a 15 to 0 run to start the second half. The Kings were outscored 44 to 26 in the third quarter. Sacramento cut the lead to 121-118 on a 3-pointer by Sabonis with 3:21 left to play in the fourth quarter. The Trail Blazers won the game by the score of 128 to 120.
Rookie Daris Acuff was the high scorer for the Kings. He had 33 points on 10 for 26 from the field, 2 for 11 from three and 11 for 12 from the free throw line. Domantas Sabonis add 27 points and 19 rebounds.
Deni Avdija was the high scorer for the Trail Blazers. He had 26 points on 8 for 16 from the field, 1 for 5 from three and 9 for 12 from the free throw line.
Larkin and I connected with Van at halftime. He had Amir, his little brother, with him.
The Kings now have 0 wins and 1 loss in games that I have seen in person during the 2026-2027 season.
