The NBA has settled on Cal Expo as the preferred location for a new Kings arena, according to sources familiar with the league's behind-the-scenes effort to build the team a new home in Sacramento.This seems like a bad idea to me. I have to agree with Sharon's reaction when I told her the story this morning: "oh, gross."
Despite its location on one of Sacramento's worst freeway bottlenecks, Cal Expo appeals to the NBA because it offers a ready supply of vacant land and a name already recognized as an entertainment destination, said the sources, who asked not to be identified because the league hasn't yet unveiled its proposal.
NBA Commissioner David Stern has said he will reveal his plan for a new arena about the time the basketball season starts this fall.

I thought I told Sharon about this back when Jim E was visiting in March. His friend is the director at Cal Expo and the Kings were negoiating for this site before the election asking to the taxpayers to pay for a downtown arena....its why the CIty had to practically bribe them to consider downtown. The good news is we could ride bikes and skip the parking bill :)
