Up early, Sharon, Jack and I headed to Oakland for the Northern California Cal Ripken 10U baseball tournament. This tournament continues over the next week and Jack's team will continue to play until they lose two games. Their opening game was against Washington Manor (San Leandro).
At the plate, Jack was 1 for 4 with a run scored and a steal. In the top of the first with two out and runners on first and second, Jack hit a hard grounder that went under the shortstop's glove. Jack was safe at first. Moved to third on walks to Josh and Breyton, Jack stole home to score the third run of the game. Jack hit a hard grounder to the right of the shortstop in the bottom of the second and Cam was forced out at second on a fielder's choice. Jack ended the inning on third base. In the third, Jack hit a grounder to the left of the shortstop and was thrown out at first on end the inning. In the bottom of the fifth with the score 12 to 3 and Pat on third, the coaches asked him to punt in order to score Pat and finish the game on the ten run rule. Jack pushed a punt passed the pitcher and was safe at first; Pat stayed at third. After Josh was intentionally walked, James grounded out to first to drive in a run and end the game.
In the field, Jack played the first and second innings at third, the third and fourth innings in left field and the fifth inning at third. Oddly, he never touched the ball.
The Laguna Outlaws beat the Washington Manor team by the score of 13 to 3 in five innings. The box score for the game is here.
Laguna plays River Park tomorrow morning. Jack is tentatively scheduled to pitch the third and fourth innings.
