2009 Lake Almanor Day 1

Every year since the summer of 1988, I have spent a week at the Dorado Inn at Lake Almanor. While Hunter, Tomasin and I have gone every year, the families in the other cabins have morphed somewhat over the years. At this point, the other three cabins include the Bob Wallens, the John Wallens and the Snipes.

Jack and I left Elk Grove about 11:30 a.m. I went up Highway 70 this year. With stops for lunch in Marysville, gas in Oroville and a waymark at Rich Bar, we rolled into the Dorado Inn about 3:30 p.m.

Sharon and Janie left Sacramento about 10:30 a.m. After a hike in Bidwell Park and lunch at the Sierra Nevada Brewery, they got there about 5:30 p.m. Tomasin and Hunter both showed up about the same time.

Once we got all of the cars unpacked and the boats in the lake, we headed for the traditional first night pizza dinner at the Buffalo Chips in Westwood.

A big group finished the night on the porch of the cabins catching up, including rehashing the Man Down incident in January. Robbie and I have never really had a chance to talk about it and he was interested in my first hand description of the events.
