2007 Kings versus Supersonics

Jack and I went to the Sacramento Kings versus Seattle Supersonics basketball game. The box score shows the attendance at 13,284 (Arco Arena holds about 17,300). It looked to me like there were 6,000 to 7,000 people at the game. Kibitzing with the season ticket holders next to us, they suggested that they had never seen so few people at a game, even a preseason game. It will be interesting to see how the attendance looks when the regular season starts.

The Kings won by a score of 104 to 98. Kevin Martin looked very good. In 23 minutes, Martin scored 27 points on 7-of-11 from the field and 12 for 12 from the foul line.

When we were picking our season tickets, I was interested in this game because I wanted to see Kevin Durant (the number 2 overall pick in the draft) play. I was not impressed. Durant struggled to guard Martin in the first quarter. Mark Kreidler's analysis of Kevin Durant's first game in the NBA is titled Durant nearly defenseless in debut. He picked up his fourth foul in the second quarter. Durant finished with 12 points in 21 minutes, but physically looked over matched most of the time. I am probably going to pick up a ticket for the season opener against Seattle to see if he improves over the next month.
