Song for 1979

In early October of 1979, the Wallen's, probably Melissa and I went to a Bread and Roses Concert at the Greek Theater. While I have a clear picture of the Wallen's in my head, I actually have no recollection of Melissa being there. It seems like she must have been. I dated Melissa from April of 1979 until January 1980.

For some reason, we were running late. We parked in the garage of the apartment building that I was living in Berkeley. In this google street view from the intersection of Telegraph and Blake Streets, my apartment was on the top floor; it is the last window on the left that is almost in the center of the picture. We walked about eight blocks from there to the Greek Theater.

I have a vivid memory of walking up to the Greek Theater just as Norton Buffalo was starting to play. Based on an album from the concert, he played I'm Taking Chances. There was a long list of artists who appeared that night, including: Norton Buffalo, Hoyt Axton, Maria Muldaur, Graham Nash, David Crosby, Kris Kristofferson, The Roches, Chick Corea, Joan Baez, and Pete Seeger.

The song for 1979 is Norton Buffalo's Harmonica Mambo.
