2009 LYB Minor Twins Game #15

Jack played in Twin's fifteenth game of the 2009 Laguna Youth Baseball Minor League Season. The Twins played against the Rockies. Coming into the game, the Rockies had a record of 15 wins and no losses. The Rockies team includes three players from the Gunners Tournament team (Josh, Matthew and Patrick), one other 9U all star from last year (Cameron) and two players who will be on this year's 10U all star team (Louie and Jordan). The two team met in the eleventh game of the season and the Twins lost by a score of 8 to 2.

At the plate, I am scoring Jack as 3 for 4 with one run scored and two RBIs. The official scorer will probably have Jack as 2 for 4. In his first at-bat against Cameron, he grounded out to the shortstop. Jack drove one into left center in his second at-bat against Matthew; he eventually came around to score. In his third plate appearance against Matthew, he hit a slow roller to the shortstop. With the infield grass being extremely long, the shortstop had trouble getting to it and picking it up cleanly. Jack was safe at first without a throw. This will probably be scored an error. With the bases loaded and two outs, Jack pushed a 3 - 2 pitch into right field off of Josh to drive in two runs.

In the field, Jack pitched the first two innings. He got three of the first four batters to pop up, but the defense was unable to make the play. The Twins have struggled in the field all season. In the second inning, after allowing the lead off runner to reach base on his error, Jack struck out two and got an inning ending ground ball. He threw 26 pitches in the first inning and 9 pitches in the second inning.

With several kids missing, Jack played the next four innings at shortstop. He has played only one other inning at short this season. He had a mixed game. Jack made several nice stops, but also several errors. After playing so well in the tournament this past weekend, he was a little frustrated with himself and his teammates.

Twins lost the game to Rockies by the score of 14 to 6. The box score is here. Their record for the season is 5 wins, 8 losses and 2 ties.

This is the final game of the regular season. The TOC (Tournament of Champions) starts on Saturday. The Twins drew the Rockies for their first game. Interestingly, this year's tournament is double elimination.
