2012 Lake Almanor Day 2

Chabrier, Hunter, Jack and I spent the night at the rental house. Although Jack slept until 9 a.m., the rest of us, even Hunter, were up early. We sat on the deck, visited and drank coffee until almost 9:30 a.m.

At this point, we put the boats in the water. Both Chabrier's and Hunter's boats were parked next door at Chabrier's house.

With the boats finally in the water, we headed to Knotty Pines to get gas and pick up a group of people. Chabrier's two girls had spent the night with some friends. We ended up picking up eight people that I had never met before and headed back out on to the lake.

The group that Chabrier picked up included his two girls and four other little girls roughly the same age. They spent most of the day tubing on a two or three tubes behind his boat.

Hunter's boat ended up heading back to the Dorado Inn. We walked up and spent some time with Tomasin and Snipes before heading back out on the water.

The rest of the late morning and early afternoon was spent on the water. Oddly, Jack didn't want to wakeboard. I am not sure why. We hung out and swam. Eventually, the Tomasin boat joined the group.

We headed to lunch about 1:30 p.m. We were going to go to Carol's. Unfortunately, we got there just as they were closing for lunch. The entire group of 20 plus then headed to Plumas Pines. We had a leisurely lunch on the deck. Jack and I spent the time playing cribbage.

It was an odd afternoon on the lake. The Chip fire is burning just to the southwest of Lake Almanor. As a result, the lake was very smokey. I don't remember it ever being this bad. Several people said that it was this bad at the end of a week ten or twelve years ago.

No trip to the lake would be complete without at least one boat towing. Typically, it has been Hunter's boat. Today, it was Chabrier's boat. Tubing a group of kids after lunch, Chabrier wrapped a rope around his prop. Hunter, Jack and I rolled up on them with Chabrier and someone else in water trying to get the rope free. We headed back to the shore to find a knife. Even with the small knife that we ended up finding, they couldn't cut the rope free. Hunter ended up towing back to the resort near Chabrier's house. We pulled the boat out of the water and I worked on cutting the rope clear.

After getting the boats out of the water, Chabrier took off for home. Jack and I spent some time on the deck of the rental house playing more cribbage. Jack just barely beat several times over the course of the day. After getting cleaned up, we headed to the Dorado Inn.

We ended the day on the deck at the Dorado Inn with a late dinner. The Snipes made chicken and beef fajitas. I told several stories from the Italian trip. With Jack and I planning to start back very early on Monday morning, we headed back to the house and crashed early.
