Over the last five years [2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011], Jack has played flag football. After working out with the team about 10 times over the course of the summer, Jack started two a day Jesuit freshman football practices in earnest on Monday. They practice from 3 to 5 and then from 6 to 8. He survived the first week and seems to be enjoying himself.
Jack is working out with the wide receiver and the defensive back groups. It appears that at this point he is in the group of the top eight wide receivers. I just hope that he gets some playing time in the games and a few touches...
Although the coaches had said that freshman football was going to be a cut sport this year, there doesn't appear to have been any cuts yet. I thought that they were going to make the first cuts tonight. I guessed that there must be 80 boys trying out for the team, while Jack thinks that the number is closer to 65. I would be surprised if they carried more than 50 boys on the team. I think that whatever cuts they make will almost have to made by next Friday. On Saturday, August 18, the team is having a "Meet the Marauders" inter-squad scrimmage for the parents.
