After the first two days of the Super Series President's Day Tournament, the Outlaws were seeded 6th out of 12 teams. The Outlaws played the Golden Spikes in the first game of the elimination round of the tournament. The Outlaws have not faced the Golden Spikes before.
In a series of heated discussions, I made Jack switch to a lighter bat. Given his struggles at the bat over the last ten days, I felt like he needed to do something to switch things up. It seemed to help in the first game.
At the plate, Jack was 1 for 2 with a sacrifice fly, reached on an error, a bunt single and three RBIs. In his first at-bat with Jeremy at third and no outs, Jack drove a 1 and 2 pitch deep into centerfield for a sacrifice fly and a RBI. He hit the first pitch of his second plate appearance sharply to the shortstop. Aaron scored from third for Jack's second RBI. The shortstop bobbled the ball and Jack was safe at first. Jack stole second, but ended the inning there. In his third at-bat with Jeremy again at third, Jack had a bunt single on a 0 and 1 pitch to score Jeremy for his third RBI.
In the field, Jack played sixth innings at third base. He had two assists and a put-out. In the bottom of the second with one out and a runner on second, the batter hit a fly ball to right field. Ian made the catch and threw a strike to Jack at third to get the runner tagging up and trying to go to third. Jack fielded two grounders to the left side cleanly and threw the runners out at first. This included a nice play on a slow roller hit just pass the pitcher to end the game.
In the bottom of the fourth with one out and runners on first and second, a ball was hit to Aaron's right at shortstop. With the runner going in front of him, Aaron got to the ball and flipped it to Jack at third. The ball and runner got there about the same time and the ball rolled away. I asked Scott at the time whose error it was and he said that he thought it was not an error. After the game taking Jack and Aaron to lunch, I asked them whose error it was. They both tried to claim it was their error which lead to a lively debate between the two of them both trying to claim responsibility the error.
The Outlaws beat the Golden Spikes by the score of 6 to 1 and advanced to the semi-final game of the tournament. The box score is here.
The Outlaws played the Sluggers in the semi-final game. The Outlaws have beaten the Sluggers on three previous occasions. Unfortunately, the Outlaws burned most of their front line pitching to get this far in the tournament.
At the plate, Jack returned to his struggles. He struck out twice on 2 and 2 counts. The Sluggers pitcher threw an 83 pitch complete game and had 9 strike-outs.
In the field, Jack played five innings at third base. He had one assist. In the third inning with out and a runner on a second, a grounder was hit to the left side. Jack came up with the ball looking at first base. He then swiveled towards second catching the runner trying to advance towards third. The runner was got in a run down and Bailey, the center fielder, eventually applied the tag.
The Outlaws pitching got hit hard and the Outlaws got flattened by the score of 11 to 3 in five innings. The box score is here.
The Outlaws have 3 wins and 5 losses for the Spring 2011 season. The game log is here.
