Ugly Loss to end the season (2011 PAL Varsity Comp Basketball SEAS versus St. John Evangelist)

The SEAS Eagles played St. John Evangelist in the second round of the season ending PAL tournament at Jesuit High School. SEAS lost to SJE in the Christian Brothers Basketball Tournament two weeks ago and lost to SJE in the flag football semi-final game last fall. SJE has not lost a varsity basketball game this season!

It was an ugly game. SJE is very tall and extremely physical. SEAS did a poor job of running their offense. They had a lot of shots blocked by the taller SJE players and missed the open shots that they did get. At the end of the first quarter, the Eagles trailed SJE by the score of 11 to 0. It did not get any better from there.

The SEAS starters scored one basket in the first half. With two more baskets in garbage time in the fourth quarter, the starters shot 3 for 24. Overall, SEAS ended up shooting 17% from the field, 6 for 35.

SJE flattened SEAS by the score of 39 to 15. This is the fewest points that SEAS has scored in any game this season. The box score is here.

Jack ended up playing only 4 minutes of the 28 minute game; this is the fewest minutes that he has played in any game this season. He was 0 for 1 from three point range. Jack had one personal foul running down a fast break. He made a nice move along the baseline with a bounce pass to Anthony, but Anthony missed the point blank shot.

The SEAS Eagles finished the season with 13 wins and 9 losses. The game log is here.

It was not a very satisfying end to the basketball season. Nevertheless, at dinner afterwards, Jack was already talking about and looking forward to next season when he will be an eighth grader!
