2011 PAL Varsity Comp Basketball SEAS versus St. Joseph's

The SEAS Eagles played in the first round of the season ending PAL tournament against St. Joseph's of Auburn at St. John Evangelist School. Somewhat disappointingly, the Eagles were seeded eighth out of the sixteen teams in the tournament. With a 6 win and 1 loss record in league, I had hoped that the Eagles would be seeded a couple of spots higher. St. Joseph's was seeded ninth.

It was extremely close game. Until midway through the third quarter, the largest lead by either team was 3 points. At this point, St. Joseph's opened a five point lead on a couple of three point shots. The Eagles clawed right back to take a 1 point lead at the beginning of the fourth quarter and then clung to a 1 or 2 point lead through the fourth quarter. St. Joseph's kept the game close by hitting a number of key free throws.

Although they only fielded 7 players, St. Joseph's had a couple of tall skilled players. They passed and moved without the ball very well. Their best player (#14) scored 17 points.

SEAS won a nail bitter by the score of 36 to 35. The box score is here.

Jack ended up playing 9 minutes of the 28 minute game. He was 1 for 3 from two point range for two points. Jack added two rebounds, one offensive and one defensive, and one turnover. He played some key minutes in the fourth quarter with the Eagles clinging to a lead.

The SEAS Eagles now have 13 wins and 8 losses for the season. The game log is here.

The Eagles will play St. John Evangelist (SJE) on Saturday afternoon in the second round of the PAL tournament. SJE is the top seeded team. I believe that they are undefeated this season. The Eagles lost to them in the Christian Brothers Tournament two weeks ago.
