A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

After spending the day putting up Christmas decorations followed by burgers at the Flaming Grill Cafe, Sharon and I saw A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood at the Country Club Cinema. We are starting our annual quest. From now until January 13 when the actual Oscars are announced, we will be guessing which films, actors and actress might be nominated.

The movie is inspired by the 1998 Esquire magazine article "Can You Say ... Hero?" by Tom Juno. It follows a journalist who is assigned to profile television icon Fred Rogers.

The film stars Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers and Matthew Rhys as Lloyd Vogel (the journalist). It is directed by Marielle Heller; she also directed last year's Can You Ever Forgive Me?

I enjoyed the movie and recommend it. Somewhat surprisingly, it has some fantasy elements. Although I am not sure that it will be nominated for Best Picture, I would make a small bet that Tom Hanks gets nominated for Best Supporting Actor.
